Six Situations Where Contractors Need a Cabinet Supplier Who Picks Up
Every contractor running fire equipment scope on a commercial build hits the same six situations. We're set up to solve them — submittal sheets ready, stock on the shelf, and a phone that gets answered before the third ring.
Failed Fire Marshal Inspection
Marshal flagged the wrong cabinet, wrong mounting height, or missing ADA compliance. CO is on the line. Call us before noon and we'll have spec-correct replacements on a truck the same day.
Spec Package Submittal
Architect specified JL Ambassador or Larsen Architectural and you need the cut sheets and submittal PDFs in the project binder. We have all current submittals on file — sent within the hour.
Pre-CO Punch List
Punch list dropped Friday, CO scheduled for Tuesday, and you're 12 cabinets short. We stock the most-specified configurations and ship from Florida — usually 1 to 3 business days anywhere on the East Coast.
Multi-Phase Build Restocks
Phase 1 closed out, Phase 2 starts in three weeks. We can hold inventory or run scheduled shipments sized to your construction calendar — no scrambling for the same SKU twice.
Hotel & Multi-Family Builds
40+ cabinets per floor, two brands acceptable to the architect, and the fire equipment scope is yours. We stock the volume and the brand spread — JL, Larsen, Cato, and Potter Roemer — to fill the whole package.
Retrofit on Concrete & Block
Existing building, no recessing possible, and surface mount is the only option. We carry the full range of surface mount and Centurion portable cabinets sized for retrofit on solid wall construction.
Which Cabinet for Which Job? Here's the Quick Answer
Recessed, semi-recessed, surface, plastic, stainless, freestanding — the right choice depends on wall construction, location, and code requirements. This is the decision matrix we walk contractors through every day on the phone.
| Project Condition | Cabinet Type | Typical Spec | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| New commercial drywall construction | Recessed metal | JL Ambassador / Larsen Architectural | Flush finish, clean lobby aesthetic, architect-spec |
| New construction with limited wall depth | Semi-recessed metal | JL / Larsen semi-recessed series | Compromise when full recess won't fit stud bay |
| Concrete, block, or retrofit walls | Surface mount metal | JL / Larsen / Potter Roemer surface | No wall cutting required, fast install |
| Outdoor Florida or coastal exposure | Plastic UV-resistant | Cato Chief / MARK Series | Won't rust, fade, or corrode in salt air |
| Commercial kitchen or coastal marine | Stainless steel | JL / Larsen stainless series | Corrosion resistance + professional finish |
| Temporary jobsite or event venue | Centurion freestanding | Portable Centurion cabinet | No wall mounting required, fully portable |
| Low-traffic indoor warehouse / storage | Cover only | Vinyl extinguisher cover | Dust + UV protection without cabinet cost |
| Combined extinguisher + hose requirement | Recessed dual cabinet | JL / Larsen combo series | Required for some high-rise & hotel specs |

Call for SubmittalsReal Cabinets on Real Commercial Walls
Cabinets aren't a catalog purchase — they have to mount cleanly, sit at the right height, and survive the building they're installed in. Here's what the cabinets we ship look like when they're actually doing their job on commercial properties.
What We Stock for Commercial & Construction Projects
A working selection from the cabinet lines we move most often on commercial builds, hotel projects, multi-family construction, and retrofit work. Need a model not listed here? Call — we carry far more than what fits on a page.
Cato Chief Plastic Cabinet
UV-resistant, rust-proof, and built for Florida outdoor exposure. Holds up in heat, humidity, and coastal salt air without fading or corroding. The default contractor choice for outdoor cabinet installs across the state.
MARK Series Plastic Cabinet
A step up from standard plastic — heavier construction for industrial sites, coastal exposure, and demanding outdoor environments. Rust and corrosion proof. Call for the full Mark Series model list and dimensions.
Recessed & Semi-Recessed Metal
The standard spec for commercial construction, multi-family residential, office buildings, and any application requiring flush or near-flush wall finish. Steel, stainless, and aluminum across multiple sizes and colors. Combined extinguisher + hose configurations available.
Surface Mount Metal
The right choice for solid concrete, block construction, or retrofits where cutting into the wall isn't an option. Significantly more durable than plastic — clean professional appearance for hotel lobbies, office common areas, and high-visibility commercial spaces.
Centurion Portable Cabinet
No wall mounting required. Freestanding design fits 10 lb and 20 lb extinguishers. The go-to solution for temporary jobsites, event venues, warehouses with changing layouts, and any application where permanent installation isn't practical.
Vinyl Extinguisher Covers
When a full cabinet isn't required — dust, UV, and minor contact protection at a fraction of cabinet cost. Available in sizes to fit 5 / 10 / 20 lb units, with select covers large enough for wheeled extinguishers. Practical for warehouses, storage areas, and low-traffic interior locations.
Typical Cabinet Quantities by Project Type
A common question on commercial builds — roughly how many cabinets does a given project type require? Final counts always come down to architect specs, fire marshal review, and NFPA 10 travel-distance calculations, but these are the rough ranges we quote contractors on the phone every week.
| Project Type | Typical Cabinet Count | Most Common Spec | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Multi-family build (per floor) | 4 – 12 cabinets | Recessed JL Ambassador or Larsen | Hallway placement, NFPA 10 travel distance |
| Hotel construction (per floor) | 6 – 14 cabinets | Recessed Larsen Architectural | Premium finish for guest corridors |
| Office tower (per floor) | 4 – 10 cabinets | Recessed or semi-recessed JL | Lobby, restroom hallways, suite corridors |
| K-12 school campus | 30 – 80 cabinets total | Surface mount painted steel | Durable, low maintenance, code-compliant |
| Hospital / medical facility | 40 – 120 cabinets total | Recessed stainless or painted steel | Infection control finish requirements |
| Retail strip center build-out | 2 – 6 cabinets per tenant | Surface or semi-recessed metal | Per-tenant fire marshal walkthroughs |
| Restaurant tenant fit-out | 3 – 5 cabinets | Stainless + Cato outdoor | K-class in kitchen, ABC dining areas |
| Warehouse / distribution | 8 – 30 cabinets | Surface mount + Cato outdoor | Loading dock + travel-distance placement |
| Outdoor parking deck or garage | 4 – 20 cabinets | Cato Chief plastic outdoor | UV + weather exposure rating required |
ADA, NFPA 10 & Fire Marshal Compliance — What the Code Actually Requires
Most failed inspections on cabinet scope come down to three things: wrong mounting height, wrong travel distance between extinguishers, or wrong cabinet rating for the location. The code is specific. Here's the short version GCs and fire marshals actually quote on walkthroughs.
ADA Mounting Height
ADA requires the extinguisher operating handle no higher than 48 inches from the floor for forward reach, or 54 inches for side reach. Cabinet placement must put the handle inside that window — measure the unit, not just the cabinet.
NFPA 10 Travel Distance
NFPA 10 requires a maximum travel distance of 75 feet to the nearest extinguisher for most Class A hazards. High-hazard occupancies require closer spacing. Cabinet placement on commercial drawings is driven by this calculation — not aesthetics.
Outdoor & Weather-Rated Locations
Outdoor and high-humidity locations require a cabinet rated for the environment. Painted steel will fail in Florida coastal exposure — use UV-resistant plastic (Cato Chief, MARK Series) or stainless steel construction for any outdoor or salt-air mount.
Fire Marshal Visibility & Signage
Cabinets must be clearly visible and unobstructed, with the extinguisher type marked on the cabinet front or adjacent signage where required. Local fire marshals can require additional signage above the cabinet — confirm with your AHJ before final inspection.

Fire Extinguisher Cabinet FAQ for GCs & Specifiers
How fast can you get cabinets to my job site?
In-stock cabinets ship the same week — most orders go out within 1 to 2 business days of confirmed quote. UPS and FedEx Ground typically deliver within 1 to 3 days across the Southeast and East Coast, with LTL freight to most of the continental U.S. landing in 3 to 5 business days. If you have a hard CO date, tell us at quote time and we'll confirm a delivery window before you cut the PO.
Do you have submittal sheets for spec packages?
Yes. We keep current submittal PDFs on file for JL Industries Ambassador, Larsen Architectural, and Cato Chief series — downloadable directly from the brand section above. For Potter Roemer and any other manufacturer not posted, call us and we'll email the current submittal sheet within the hour.
Can you quote a full spec package for a multi-floor build?
Yes — this is a significant share of our work. Send us the cabinet schedule from the architectural drawings or the fire protection plans and we'll quote the full package, confirm lead times across the SKU list, and coordinate phased delivery to match your construction schedule. Multi-phase builds can run on staggered shipments so you're not warehousing cabinets you don't need until Phase 3.
What's the difference between recessed, semi-recessed, and surface mount?
Recessed — installed completely inside the wall, only the door is visible. Flush finish. Requires wall cutting. Default for new commercial construction.
Semi-recessed — partially set into the wall with the front projecting slightly. Used when wall depth doesn't support full recess.
Surface mount — mounted entirely on the wall surface. No wall cutting required. The right choice for concrete, block, or retrofit installs.
Are your cabinets ADA compliant?
Most cabinet models we stock meet ADA requirements when mounted correctly. ADA requires the extinguisher operating handle no higher than 48 inches from the floor for forward reach, or 54 inches for side reach. The cabinet itself doesn't determine compliance — mounting height does. We can confirm ADA compliance for specific models against your project's reach requirements before you order.
What cabinet is right for outdoor and coastal Florida installs?
For most Florida outdoor applications the answer is Cato Chief plastic — UV resistant, rust proof, and built for heat, humidity, and coastal salt air without fading. For demanding industrial or heavy-marine exposure, the MARK Series plastic or our stainless steel options are worth the step up. Painted steel will fail in Florida outdoor exposure — don't spec it for any exterior mount.
Can I source extinguishers and cabinets in one shipment?
Yes — and most contractors do. We stock both, so cabinets and certified extinguishers can ship together on the same pallet. Certified and tagged on arrival, ready to mount the day they hit your job site. Simplifies procurement and removes one delivery from your schedule.
What if the fire marshal flagged my cabinets at inspection?
Call us with the inspection report and we'll work through the cited code section, identify the correct replacement cabinet or mounting fix, and quote replacement units same day. Failed-inspection turnarounds are routine — most punch-list cabinet issues can be resolved before the next walkthrough.
Do you supply fire equipment dealers wholesale?
Yes. We supply fire equipment dealers across the country with both cabinets and certified refurbished extinguishers. Pallet quantities, no minimums, scheduled standing orders — all standard. Call to open a dealer account.
How do I get a quote?
Call (727) 620-3473 or use the quote form at the bottom of this page. Send the cabinet schedule or model numbers and we'll have pricing, availability, and lead times back within the hour during business hours.
One Cabinet or a Full Spec Package — We're Set Up for Both
